manong, para.

I've been a commuter forever, but I've never really been particular about commuting ethics - especially on jeepneys. I think if people who study Filipino behavior and society would flock to our streets and ride our patoks, they'd discover a treasure trove of insight about us. Okay, that's not my novel idea. hwaha. On the other hand, if you try to romanticize the whole jeepney experience too much, you might forget to say "para" at your stop - like what happens to me, especially when I have a good-looking co-passenger (yes, utterly pathetic. wah!). Haha. I miss the old jeepneys - those with the metal horses on the hood and the flying vinyl strips and huge airbrush portraits on the door and what-have-you. Most of the jeeps I see (and ride) these days are darkly-painted. Kung may personality/preference, kumbaga, punk o kaya hiphop :D. Their "look" complements their booming soundtracks - loud, loud "remixes" of all the OPM songs. :D

Okay, back to commuting ethics. On dyips it's pretty uncomplicated - you move when someone comes in, you hand the fare/change to the driver if you're nearer, you don't squeeze too close, you don't do any lewd acts. The complications these days come from the snatchers and cellphone holdappers. (I have not been subject to either, and I hope I will never be!). And the kids (especially here in Concepcion) who get on and wipe the passenger's shoes (and feet if you're in flips!) with their dirty rag and ask for coins, whatever. And those bigger kids with tambourines who'd drop envelopes in your lap and force you to listen to them sing. We'd usually just ignore these people, won't we? Should we? (Wah, I'll deal with that thought later.)

Yesterday, I figured the complication can come from the passengers themselves too. I took four jeeney rides yesterday. On my first ride, the driver was a smiley old man who was chatting away while he wove through the traffic with his friend/passenger beside him. I was near them and I could catch snippets of their conversation. He and the other fellow were talking about the strict Marikina rules ("pati nagtitinda ng balut hinuhuli! pati pusa hinuhuli! daga lang hindi hinuhuli!"). Then just before we got on the tulay, this thin lady near the (ohmigod, what do you call the entrance? it's not a door, isn't it?!) end (!) suddenly said, in a very loud voice, "Ano ba yan! ambagal bagal magpatakbo! manong bilisan mo naman! kuwento kasi ng kuwento!" I thought that was very rude. Apparently manong driver wasn't too pleased too, because although he didn't raise his voice back at the lady, he was all like, "E di magtaxi ho kayo kung gusto niyo ng mabilis. O kaya sumakay kayo ng patok (the aforementioned dark jeeps, which are also usually driven by younger, and more speed-crazy drivers). Kung ayaw ninyo mahuli dapat agahan niyo pag-alis sa bahay. Alam niyo namang ma-traffic kapag ganitong oras (a little after nine)." Kawawa si manong. One of the reasons I'm resenting my mom these days is because she acts like that lady sometimes, and I don't really think it's right... do you? May pahabol pa yung ale, "sa susunod hindi na ako sasakay sa inyo!" I thought that was absurd. She got off before her stop. I think she ran reaaallllyyy late for her appointment or whatever.

I think jeepneys exist here in our country and no where else because we are good at that "pakikisama" thing - we can be in close proximity with strangers without feeling queasy. We are supposed to be known for being nice even to people we aren't directly connected with. But that's a utopian ideology already, because it existed when Filipinos didn't belong to starkly different social classes yet. Not true these days. That aside, we'd rather ride a jeepney than let our car stall in traffic. or we don't have a car at all.

Anyway, what I'm trying to say here is we still have to be nice when we ride jeepneys. And never ride a jeep with untied wet hair unless you want volume with debris. Yeah, and since you're on a pang-masa vehicle, lose the shining shimmering accoutrements as well - you'd only tempt the snatchers. haha. at magbayad ng tama. *wink*

snaps.

Multiply's down. Too Bad. Lucky Blog. Haha.

We went swimming last friday night. at 9 waves (yeah, kick off of that famous 8-wave place :D). The waves were cool (I was told they were created using big washing machine-like blades), but they're downright freaky if you're at the deepest end... I FINALLY know how to float... Bolle's been trying to teach me how for summers, and I only got the hang of it now... yeah! haha. so there I was, enjoying my new found ability, when suddenly the waves were there, and I couldn't get my head out of water. I thought I was really gonna drown. wahaha. But I survived. woot!

From Left To Right: Me and the inimitable Yeye; Me and ahloy; Me and Ahlee (woot!); Me (what the-); Me a g a i n; Bolle doing something usual; Me; Bolle doing something unusual :P; Ahloy doing a pose for me!; Ma and Pa at ahlee and carmi's grad; samurai the puppy!; me on celia's phone; me on ate apol's phone; me, charys, and redone reunited; my dormmates and I shared this kare kare on my last lunch out with them (siyett!!! I'll miss them!!!!); the mess in the room right after I brought home all my stuff from the dorm; my pretty neighbor nicole; anne and I hamming it up before our Hum1 presentation (a fashion show!).

There you go :p

I was at diliman this morning... Finally completed my grades. Now I'll have to wait (and maybe try penance this holy week?!). It must be coincidence, but my jeepney rides both to and from UpD were happening-filled, but I think I'll save that for a later post. :)

I MISS my dormmates.

Pagsabak: Day Two

Today we went to Roces Avenue for the written exam. We were lucky we didn't get lost, considering the fact that we kept on saying "Ramp Car" instead of Ramcor. \m/ we passed, of course. Sa Wednesday ang call. whopee. Hmm... I wouldn't say it was difficult, but it was completely nerve-wracking because the exam administrator announced the results then and there, and asked those who failed to leave the small room at once. woot. elimination ang dating. bongga. Wahaha. I'm glad I've already met some nice people. Sana makapasok kami lahat. :P So I've proven that I'm not crazy (again!), because I passed the psych exam. har!

Guard: (matapos akong sipatin) Iha... tsinelas ba yan?

Me: (looking down on my dragon-shod feet) um, opo.

Guard: Iha, kung papalarin ka, sa susunod bawal ang tsinelas sa opisina, ha. Akina ID mo.

Me: ...opo.... (sheepish, then hands over school ID)

Guard: ah, kaya pala.

woot! akalain mo yun? may reputasyon? wahaha!

Signs seen along Tuazon: Hack You! (net shop ata) saka Bread Pitt (bakery). woot.

+++

Yesterday I was at elbi again... kala mo walking distance ang elbi kung e-commute! :D Pero masaya naman, nagkita kami ni Mr. Ampalaya at ni Ginoong Eskimo. whopee! haha. It's soooo hooottttt in Los Banos. summer na summer. awr. Si darryl kamusta na kaya? akalain mo yun? I kind of miss him. Bakit kaya siya hindi ko makita? sayang!

Pagsabak!

Summer na nga? Hmm. I'm still in denial, even though I've already gone through the traditional kick-off of cleaning out our room (throwing away stuff that I deemed important a year ago, and cleaning out the windows and the bed, etc). The heat, of course, is something you cannot ignore. So summer really is here. Rawr, I wanna go swimming.

+++

Me: Kailangan nio po ba ng tao?

Seamstress: Marunong ka ba manahi?!

Me: ...

+++

Manager: So, tell me something about yourself.

Me: Um. Summer vacation ko po ngayon, kaya naghahanap talaga ako ng magagawa...

I have a psychological exam (!) on friday, so it just goes to show that even these humdrum summer days can hold surprises. Let's hope this turns out well. :P I might suffer some drawbacks, but then again I might not! hehe \m/

I was at the grocery with ahlee and ate bheck the other day. beside the cash register were three bottles of a certain feminine wash, and they were attached by a chain to the counter. There was a sign; "Free trial!!!". Wooot! Y_Y
